Who is this guy?

Brandon N. Towl is a freelance writer and editor living in St. Louis, MO.

I’ll never forget writing my first “book”.  I was in the first grade, and our teacher, Mrs. Bush, decided that we should make our own books for our science unit.  The book was on dinosaurs– or maybe it was skunks?  Planets?  (See: very memorable.)  But what excited me was not the subject itself.  What excited me was the very idea that each one of us could write and produce a book and call it our own.  I have been writing since then, and never looked back.  (I believe my mother’s attic is still home to the “full set” of human anatomy books I created as a kid.)

I started Words Have Impact in 2011 to help businesses and organizations communicate better using the written word.  Before that, I have worn many hats:

  • I worked as a ghost writer for Ghostwriter press in Florrisant, MO for a year
  • I helped my wife launch her own company, Rover Graphics, LLC, in 2009
  • I have a PhD in Philosophy, Neuroscience, and Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, and I still teach some courses in the Philosophy department there (and at other universities in the area).
  • I have a BA from Harvard University, including a certificate in Cognitive Neuroscience.
  • In the past, I have worked as a camp counselor, IT consultant, copy store clerk, and a research assistant in an optics lab.

Through my many jobs and teaching positions, I learned that I had a talent for rewriting and reorganizing other peoples’ words to make them simpler, clearer, and more forceful.  Now I get to do this for a living.

And I love it.
